SBI USMNT Man of the Match: Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams has set a high bar with his play throughout the FIFA World Cup and he maintained that impressive level once again when the U.S. men’s national team needed him the most.

The Leeds United midfielder turned in another dominant showing in the heart of the USMNT midfield, helping the Americans secure their place in the Round of 16 with a performance that earned him SBI Man of the Match honors.

Adams registered a game-high 12 recoveries and completed game-highs in touches (81), completed passes (63) and distance covered with his passes. Not only did he deliver his usual high-level of defensive productivity, Adams was also an attacking threat with his passing, converting nine of 10 long-range passes.

It was a performance that maintained Adams dominant level during the World Cup, and perhaps his most well-rounded showing of the tournament.

Adams wasn’t the only American to shine on Tuesday. He edged out Sergiño Dest, Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and Cameron Carter-Vickers for Man of the Match honors.

What did you think of Adams’ performance? Who was your pick for Man of the Match for the USMNT?

  1. Ream has scarcely put a foot wrong in the entire tournament. His positioning, along with Robinson’s help, has prevented his speed, or lack of it, from being an issue.
At the end of the day he has been the most steady defender on the team theoughout.

  2. I agree Tyler’s been the MVP, but the one I’m most impressed with is Musah. His composure is just not normal for his age, on the field and in front of the camara. Most young players lack consistency, but he is an absolute rock, and not just playing conservatively – he’s attacking. What an impressive guy. Go Yunus!
