Christian Pulisic has enjoyed back-to-back starts for Chelsea in his return to English Premier League play, but will now face his toughest test in the form of defending champions Manchester City.

Pulisic has made 20 combined appearances for Chelsea this season, starting against AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest over the past week. The 24-year-old starred for the U.S. men’s national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but is aiming to get back to his best at Chelsea. Although he has not scored or assisted since his return from Qatar, Pulisic has worked hard in Graham Potter’s squad, fighting for opportunities in the final third. Now he will fight to earn his first start of 2023 and help the Blues began their move up the league table with seven points separating them and fourth place Manchester United.

Elsewhere in England, Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United host West Ham United. Josh Sargent and Norwich City host Watford.

In Italy, Weston McKennie and Sergino Dest resume their Serie A schedules.

In Spain, Yunus Musah and Luca De La Torre aim to lead their clubs to victories in Copa Del Rey action.

In Scotland, Malik Tillman and Cameron Carter-Vickers face off in the second Old Firm of the season.

  1. i think it’s pretty important to the USMNT that richards either starts getting played more by palace or gets loaned someplace where he does.

  2. does it really take more than a month to decide if the coach keeps his job? i think we’ve taken so long his deal is already actually up.

      • for starters, we’re a month past qatar and it shouldn’t take a month to decide did he do well enough and retain or fire. the brass should already have a pretty good idea if they were satisfied. to me this is paralysis by analysis not thinking.

similarly, if we have other ideas, USSF has gone from footsie to announcement in 1-2 weeks before. this does not take a month or a year. i don’t consider GB that we got last time we “thought about it” to be well thought out for all the time it took. i think too much time encourages them to be stupidly cute and hubristic. i kind of want something very obvious but smart. that should take a week.

last, they are scheduled to play games in 3 weeks. the player type usually selected for camp cupcake (ie MLS) hasn’t played for weeks? months? and has to get fit or risk muscle pulls if we honor games after little or no practice. the training camp should already be started this week. the old coach’s contract expired new year’s. but we haven’t heard who the coach will be much less who is going to camp much less if we have a camp. even a caretaker would need to sit down, come up with a list, get them on planes, accommodation sorted, etc.

if you recall 2018-19 we ended up wasting a lot of time with a caretaker whose prescient choices (eg weah miles CCV richards) GB then ignored for years.
