Report: Gianluca Busio linked with Serie B side Pisa

Gianluca Busio and Venezia have struggled for majority of the Serie B season, but Busio is reportedly linked with an in-division move to a promotion contender.

Busio is linked with a transfer to fellow Serie B side Pisa, Tutto Mercato reported Thursday. The former Sporting KC homegrown midfielder is mentioned as part of a swap deal for Pisa forward Giuseppe Sibilli, according to the report.

Busio, 20, is in his second campaign with Venezia after joining the Italian club from SKC in 2021. He totaled one goal and two assists in 29 Serie A appearances last season, but couldn’t help Venezia avoid relegation from the top-flight.

Busio has made 16 league appearances in Serie B, logging 996 minutes. Venezia sits in the relegation zone in 18th place, while Pisa is pushing for promotion, currently sitting in sixth.

Sibilli has totaled two goals in 18 Serie B matches for Pisa and could find a larger role with Venezia if a moves comes to fruition.

Busio is one of four American players currently with Venezia’s first team, joining Tanner Tessmann, Jack De Vries, and Andrija Novakovich. He has earned nine caps with the USMNT to date.

Venezia hosts Cittadella on Saturday while Pisa visits Genoa.

  1. I think it’s telling that he’s not linked with a Serie A side, but at the end of the day he’s only 20 and can keep improving over the next several seasons, although hopefully in the top division next season.
