Mathis Albert’s rapid rise in Borussia Dortmund’s youth set up will reportedly continue this winter.
Albert is set to be promoted to Borussia Dortmund’s Under-23 squad, German outlet Bild reported Wednesday. The 16-year-old attacker is on pace to potentially earn a jump to the first team as well next summer, according to the report.
Albert is in the midst of his second season with Dortmund’s U-19 side. The dynamic winger has scored eight goals and recorded one assist in 14 appearances across all competitions this campaign.
He scored seven goals in 24 appearances last season, featuring in the Bundesliga’s U-19 division. Albert can play as a left or right winger and is well known for his pace in possession.
Albert has been called up to the U.S. Under-17 men’s national team ahead of the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup. He is set to begin group stage play at the competition on November 5 when the United States faces off with Burkina Faso.
They will also face Tajikistan and the Czech Republic in group stage play on Nov. 8 and 11 respectively.
Albert could become the latest young American talent at Borussia Dortmund, following in the footsteps of Christian Pulisic, Gio Reyna, and Cole Campbell.

Talented kid. Hoping his development continues on an upward trajectory. Some very hopeful attacking players going into the 2030 WC cycle.
Very cool! Looks like he’s developing great. Hopefully the step up in level will continue his progress.
