Auston Trusty’s stoppage time header snaps Birmingham City winless league run

Birmingham City needed someone to step up and play the hero in Saturday’s English Football League Championship trip to Swansea City and American defender Auston Trusty rose to that challenge.

Trusty delivered a 97th minute winning goal for the Blues on Saturday in a 4-3 comeback victory at the Liberty Stadium. It was Trusty’s fourth league goal of the campaign, continuing a strong loan spell from English Premier League side Arsenal.

John Eustace’s squad had to dig deep in the final minutes to flip the result in their favor, using two goals from the 90th minute onward. Lukas Jutkiewicz’s equalizing goal came in the 90th minute before Trusty’s rising header in the 97th minute boosted Birmingham City in front 4-3.

Trusty also led all players by winning 12 of his 14 individual duels, while also completing one tackle, and drawing two fouls. The 24-year-old rebounded in a big fashion after being the unfortunate player to concede an own goal in Birmingham’s 1-0 FA Cup replay loss to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.

Trusty has now made 32 combined appearances for Birmingham City, helping the Blues move eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Up next are back-to-back home matches against Daryl Dike and West Bromwich Albion, as well as Cardiff City.
