Josh Sargent ruled out for next two Norwich City matches

Norwich City has two important English Football League Championship home matches over the next five days but American striker Josh Sargent won’t be available for either of them.

Canaries manager David Wagner confirmed Monday that Sargent will be sidelined to an ankle injury, which occurred in Saturday’s goal-less draw with Wigan Athletic. The U.S. men’s national team striker recently scored his 11th league goal of the season last week, but will miss Tuesday’s match vs. Birmingham City and Saturday’s match vs. Cardiff City due to his recent injury.

“Josh has an ankle injury, so unfortunately he will be out of tomorrow’s game, and then the game at the weekend,” Wagner said in his pre-match press conference.

Sargent has scored twice in seven appearances to start the 2023 schedule, as the Canaries fight to get back into the promotion playoff picture. The 23-year-old has continued to play a starting role under the German-American manager, being used in a number of different roles.

Fellow attacker Teemu Pukki is a doubt to feature for Norwich City on Tuesday, which will likely open the door for Adam Idah to start at striker. Idah has only one goal in 12 league outings so far this season after overcoming a lengthy period on the sidelines through his own injury.

Norwich City sits ninth in the league table, three points back of Sunderland for the final promotion playoff spot. A total of five of the Canaries final 14 league matches will come against teams higher than them in the current standings.
