Mexico’s quest to snap a four match winless streak against the U.S. men’s national team continues this month with Diego Cocca naming his 23-player roster for the upcoming Continental Clasico.
Julián Araujo, Jesús Gallardo, and Henry Martín headlined Cocca’s roster for the April 19th head-to-head showdown in Glendale, Arizona. There will be a good mixture of experience and youth in Cocca’s squad, which will seek a first win over the Americans since 2019.
Gallardo leads all El Tri players in the squad with 82 caps while defender Nestor Araujo has the second-most with 64. Carlos Acevedo could earn the starting nod as he comes into camp with five caps under his belt compared to Antonio Rodriguez and Angel Malagon’s combined zero caps.
Mexico joined the USMNT in qualifying for the Concacaf Nations League semifinals later this June. El Tri will square off with Anthony Hudson’s squad on June 15, with the winner taking on either Panama or Canada in the tournament final on June 18.
El Tri will also be hoping to exact revenge against the USMNT in this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup after falling to the Americans in the 2021 final.
Here is a closer look at Mexico’s squad:

I had thought there might be a live blog of the USMNT–Mexico game, or at least an article postgame, but apparently not. /-:
.
I would be interested to know others’ reactions to the 1-1 tie, and the performances of the players. Could we possibly just do it ourselves, here, for the time being? What did you all think of the game?
.
Aldo Rocha got a double yellow in the Champions league match v the Union. Plays the 6. I thought, there would be a Herrera in this squad, just not the one I thought. Acevedo is pretty good but not Ochoa. Overall, I think the US has a stronger squad. Some US newbie’s mixed in with the vets against this squad wouldn’t be so bad. Isais -LB for Pachuca wasn’t called up for El Tri.
