Arsenal has spent majority of the English Premier League campaign in the driver’s seat, but now Mikel Arteta’s men will be doing the chasing with hopes of edging Manchester City to the league title.
The Gunners face off with London rivals Chelsea on Tuesday knowing three points are needed after four-consecutive winless matches. Arsenal’s heavy 4-1 road loss to Man City paired with the Citizens 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday have boosted Pep Guardiola’s squad into the top spot with four weeks left in the season.
Chelsea is desperate for a victory as well after suffering five-consecutive defeats in all competitions under Frank Lampard. The Blues will not be in Europe next season, but a strong ending to the domestic schedule could help decide which players stay and who goes this summer.
Manchester City puts its 18-match unbeaten run on the line this week with West Ham United visiting the Etihad Stadium. A 2-1 road win over Fulham on Sunday propelled the Cityzens into first place by one point over Arsenal.
West Ham United will be seeking a shock win at the Etihad, knowing it could all but clinch its league safety for another season.
In California, LAFC hosts the Philadelphia Union in its second leg tie of the Concacaf Champions League semifinals. After a injury-time equalizer from Kellyn Acosta, LAFC returns home with a boost of confidence knowing they will have their frantic crowd behind them for the entirety of the contest.
German Cup action resumes this week with RB Leipzig facing Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt taking on Stuttgart with two finals places at stake.
