Erik Palmer-Brown suffers relegation from Ligue 1 with Troyes

Two additional Ligue 1 clubs suffered relegation from France’s top-flight on Sunday with one American defender unfortunately on the end of it.

Erik Palmer-Brown and Troyes officially were relegated to Ligue 2 on Sunday following a 4-0 road loss to Stade Rennes. The American defender played 90 minutes in the defeat, with three second-half goals truly putting the match out of reach for Troyes following a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Palmer-Brown, 26, has featured in every Ligue 1 match this season (35 appearances) for Troyes. The former Sporting Kansas City homegrown defender however could not help Troyes turn things around during the second half of the season.

Troyes only won one league match in 2023, a 3-2 victory over Strasbourg on Jan. 2. They came into Sunday’s match failing to win any of their last 19 matches across all competitions.

Palmer-Brown joined Troyes in February 2022 and since has totaled 57 appearances in all competitions for the club. His current contract is set to run until June 2024, but the U.S. men’s national team centerback could be on the move following Troyes’ relegation.

Troyes closes out its schedule with matches against Strasbourg and Angers over the next two weeks.
