Malik Tillman’s impressive loan spell with Rangers earned him Best XI honors in the Scottish Premiership this season and the American attacker was rewarded with another major honor on Sunday.

Tillman was named PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, the federation announced. The Bayern Munich loanee is sidelined for the remainder of the current SPFL season and is expected to return to Germany this summer.

Tillman scored 12 goals and registered five assists in 42 combined appearances for Rangers this season. The 20-year-old recently suffered a hamstring injury on April 30 in the Scottish Cup semifinals, forcing him to miss Rangers’ final matches of the season.

The U.S. men’s national team attacker was recently nominated for Rangers’ Player of the Year award, as well as three additional individual achievements this campaign at club level. Tillman is a finalist for the club’s Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season, and Goal of the Season awards.

Tillman earned his USMNT debut last summer under Gregg Berhalter and remains a long-term option with the program.

Rangers defeated Glasgow rivals Celtic 3-0 on Saturday and has three league matches remaining on its schedule this month.

  1. I’m really happy for Tillman.
Did anyone else have a good year? Not to be excessively negative, but it’s been pretty disappointing. Pulisic bench, Reyna bench, Dest loaned and not even bench, McKennie loaned and fighting relegation, Adams injured and fighting relegation.
Sargent had a good year, but didn’t get promoted.
Marsh fired. CCV did well I guess?
Robinson and Scally kept on consistently performing without much in the way of headlines, so I’ll take that as a positive. Musah is fighting relegation but I guess he got some good minutes. Pepi got going again but in a relegated Dutch team.
Am I missing any major bright spots or was it really this bad?

After the incredible momentum (ok, hype) from two years ago when we had five guys getting starts on top CL teams, it’s hard not to feel a little starved for good news.

    • Tim Ream and to a lesser Jedi. Tim captained Fulham to a top half finish when few expected them to avoid relegation and even fewer expected Tim to even see the field.

    • Wright is having another good season on 15 goals for a mediocre Antalayaspor. Seems likely he will be in transfer news this summer.

McKenzie turning into a the CB we all thought he could become with Gent.

Paredes a consistent bench player and had some bright moments at Wolfsburg.

    • That’s a big ask. Obviously not everyone is going to stay at Bayern and Muller at some point has to age out but there is a ton of players with more experience and success than Tillman. It’s really hard to breakthrough at Bayern and sometimes even when a youngster looks promising if they get chance to buy someone for a good price at that position they’ll still buy the guy. You never now managers will latch onto guys but it feels like success in a better league probably is needed first. Not unlike Balogun going Middlesbrough to Reims to ? I love your optimism though.
