Jesse Marsch had remained linked with the U.S. men’s national team head coaching vacancy, but the American manager isn’t expected to be considered going forward.
Marsch won’t become the next USMNT head coach, his agent Ron Waxman announced via social media on Thursday. The 49-year-old had been linked with the USMNT job throughout 2023, especially following his departure from Leeds United in February.
Marsch served as manager of Leeds United from Feb. 2022 to Feb. 2023 before being fired with the Yorkshire club fighting to stay in the English Premier League. However, Leeds United was relegated in May despite the best efforts of Marsch, Javi Gracia, and Sam Allardyce.
Marsch posted a 11-10-16 record across all competitions with Leeds United.
He was also linked with Southampton, Leicester City, and AS Monaco in recent months, but none of those moves came to fruition.
Marsch previously was the manager of both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig in Europe before joining Leeds United in Feb. 2022.
B.J. Callaghan was elevated to interim USMNT head coach earlier this spring ahead of the Concacaf Nations League Finals and Concacaf Gold Cup.
does this mean we’re circling back to GB or does this mean one of the yank coaches abroad or MLS alums gets it. i say this because my initial reaction was like ok, good, we deserve better, then i thought, who else is in this pool, is my reward worse. a debate along these lines takes place when the dynamo sign coaches or players. it is destructive and paralyzing. hire better people.
I’ve never been more convinced Marsch will be hired. We’ve heard over and over he’s going he or there and it’s done. Then falls through. So I’m very now that he says it’s not happening it will.
This didn’t age well
