Q2 Stadium will serve as a host venue during the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League.
The home stadium of Austin FC was chosen as the quarterfinal home leg venue for the upcoming competition, U.S. Soccer announced Friday. The CNL quarterfinal round will serve as qualification for the prestigious 2024 Copa America, which will be hosted in the United States.
The 2024 Copa America will include 10 CONMEBOL nations and six Concacaf guest nations, including defending World Cup and Copa America champions Argentina.
League A has been expanded from 12 to 16 teams for the 2023-24 Nations League. The quarterfinals will feature a home-and-away format in the FIFA Match Window of November 2023, with the aggregate score winners in each matchup advancing to the 2024 CNL Finals next March.
“With this game being critical to our objectives of advancing in the Concacaf Nations League and qualifying for the 2024 Copa America, we think in all ways that Austin is the perfect host,” USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter said. “Along with the world-class facilities, the fan support and the atmosphere in the stadium has been incredible every time we play there. We’re looking forward to coming back in November.”
The pairings for the quarterfinals will be determined based on the Concacaf Rankings of October 2023 (after the FIFA Window) and the 2023-24 CNL group stage results.
The USMNT has won the first two editions of the Concacaf Nations League, defeating Mexico in 2021 and Canada in 2023. Berhalter served as head coach during the inaugural edition of the tournament while B.J. Callaghan led the Americans to the 2023 edition as interim head coach.
The USMNT has won all three of its previous matches in Austin, Texas.
