AFC Bournemouth bolstered its midfield in a big way on Sunday in the form of a thriving U.S. men’s national team player.

Tyler Adams has joined the Cherries on a permanent deal from Leeds United, both clubs announced Sunday. Adams signed a five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium after Bournemouth triggered his £20 million release clause late last week.

“We’re thrilled to have brought Tyler to the club and he is a player we’ve admired for a long time,” AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said. “It’s been widely documented how much his talents have been recognized in this transfer window by other clubs, so to have him sign for AFC Bournemouth shows the ambition we have as a club.

“Tyler is an exciting player who possesses plenty of experience for someone that is just 24 years of age and we’re looking forward to working with him as he’s a player we know will be a great addition to our squad,” Burke added about Adams.

The 24-year-old made 26 combined appearances for Leeds United last season under Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia following his transfer from RB Leipzig last summer. He had been sidelined since mid-March after suffering a hamstring injury with the Lilywhites during their Premier League campaign.

Adams made 103 combined appearances for RB Leipzig, scoring two goals and adding four assists. He also made 74 appearances in MLS with the New York Red Bulls after coming through their academy ranks.

Adams has earned 36 caps to date with the USMNT.

Andoni Iraola’s squad will host Tottenham on August 26 seeking a rebound performance after Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Liverpool.

  1. Tim Weah injured at the end of the first half of his first Serie A game. McKennie replaced him at the start of the second half. Fragility of our current crop of players rears its ugly head again. Hopefully it isn’t serious.

    • Allegri said “just knock to the ankle.” Didn’t sound concerned from his post match. Up 3-0 at half you pull guys if there’s any doubt I’d guess.

  2. A good fit for Adams. Not the circus of Chelsea and their vulture capitalists owners, and not Leeds who is always in danger of relegation. Best of luck!

      • I disagree, I think they’ll hover around or just below mid table the majority of the season…..only time will tell though

      • Think I’m more in line with Ronnie on this one. Iraola and incoming upgrades- now including Adams will move them up the table a bit in what is a weaker PL at the bottom of the table this season.

      • I think Iraola is the wild card, the guys they signed are pretty untested outside Adams. Their summer spending smells of Leeds last year. A lot of money on prospects that have a lot of hype but no EPL experience. Looks like a decently safe bet that Burnley, Luton, and Sheffield United will go back down.

      • Yup- Burnley, Luton, and Sheffield United and we can add Everton as doing everything they can to be right in the mix with them.

I’d say part of Leeds issue was tied to key injuries and where they spent their money. They were in dire need of help on the backline and striker but seemed intent on collecting wide attackers.
