Bruce Arena will not be on the sidelines for the New England Revolution’s Leagues Cup Round of 32 match this week.
The Revs announced Tuesday that they’ve placed Arena on administrative leave pending an investigation from Major League Soccer into allegations that he made “insensitive and inappropriate remarks.” Arena, a former U.S. men’s national team head coach, has been in charge of the Revs since 2019.
“The New England Revolution organization has placed Coach Arena on administrative leave as a result of an ongoing investigation being conducted by Major League Soccer into allegations of insensitive and inappropriate remarks,” a club statement read.
“The organization takes any allegations of workplace misconduct extremely seriously and is working closely with the League and fully cooperating with its investigation.”
Arena led the Revs to a Supporters’ Shield in 2021 and overall has registered a 69-44-37 record with New England across all competitions. The 71-year-old has won five MLS Cups during his head coaching career, with three of them coming with the LA Galaxy and two coming with DC United.
He has also been named MLS Coach of the Year on four occasions (1997, 2009, 2011, 2021).
The Revs will face Liga MX side Atlas in the Round of 32 in the Leagues Cup.
Why do have to read about his awards won in an article about something he did to get suspended?
Anyone going to ask what he said?
He is lucky. In Canada he would be put in jail for insensitive comments hurting someones feelings.
