Tyler Adams eager to “pay back” Bournemouth following positive club debut

Tyler Adams finally got to savor his club debut for AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night and after getting his first taste of action in the new English season, the American midfielder is ready to lay it all on the line for the South Coast club.

Adams came off the bench on Wednesday night, logging 20 minutes in the Cherries’ 2-0 EFL Cup victory over second-tier side Stoke City. The USMNT captain had been sidelined from competitive action since March due to a hamstring injury he suffered at Leeds United.

After a summer of speculation, Adams made his return to the English Premier League this summer, signing with the Cherries and starting a new chapter in his club career. Now with his first appearance in over six months under his belt, Adams is ready to build off of it going forward this fall.

“It was a good feeling. Just to step on the grass again in a competitive match felt really, really nice,” Adams told BBC Radio Solent postmatch at the Vitality Stadium. “I’m excited to be here with my new team, a new environment, new people and the support from the fans was amazing as well.

Adams helped close out an important result for Andoni Iraola’s squad, one that advanced them into the Round of 16 in the EFL Cup. The 24-year-old helped close out a shutout victory, competing six of his seven passes, winning three duels, and making two recoveries as the Cherries now prepare to turn their attention back towards Premier League play this weekend.

Bournemouth took a risk on acquiring Adams this summer, knowing he was injured, but still signing him to a long-term deal. Adams is pleased to contribute to the squad going forward, knowing there are 15 matches on the horizon to close out the 2023 schedule.

“It’s not often that a club signs an injured player,” Adams told the Bournemouth Echo.

“They took a risk on me, but I know that I’m going to be able to pay them back with good performances here, so I’m excited that I’m able to get back out there finally.”

Bournemouth hosts Arsenal in EPL play on Saturday before visiting Everton on Oct. 7.
