The November Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal schedule has been confirmed with the U.S. men’s national team set to continue its quest for a three-peat.
November 16-21 has been determined as the dates for the quarterfinal round of the 2023-24 edition of the tournament. The USMNT will host Trinidad & Tobago at Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium on Nov. 16 (9 p.m. ET) before visiting Hasley Crawford Stadium on Nov. 20 (7 p.m. ET) for the second leg of the tie.
The USMNT currently holds a 21-3-4 all-time advantage against Trinidad and Tobago and last faced them in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. FC Dallas forward Jesus Ferreira registered a first-half hat trick in a 6-0 Gold Cup group stage victory, while San Jose forward Cade Cowell, Venezia midfielder Gianluca Busio and FC Cincinnati forward Brandon Vazquez also found the back of the net.
Trinidad & Tobago reached the quarterfinals having finished second in Group A with nine points. Despite suffering a recent 5-3 loss to Curacao, the Soca Warriors edged Martinique to second place after winning three of their four group stage matches.
Nov. 16 and 20 will also serve as the dates for the quarterfinal showdown between Panama and Costa Rica. Costa Rica and Panama have squared off in four matches over the past two years, with the Panamanians winning three of those matchups.
Mexico vs. Honduras and Canada vs. Jamaica will take place on Nov. 17 and 21 respectively. Mexico is unbeaten in its last five head-to-head meetings with Honduras while Canada and Jamaica have only met twice since 2018
The 2023-24 Nations League quarterfinals serve as qualification for the prestigious 2024 Copa America. The Copa America will be played in the United States during the Summer of 2024, and will feature 10 CONMEBOL nations and six CONCACAF nations.
The four losing quarterfinalists will still have an opportunity to qualify for Copa America 2024 via a single-match direct elimination play-in, where they will play for the two remaining slots awarded to Concacaf nations.
The USMNT are two-time defending champions after defeating Mexico in the 2020-21 edition and Canada in the 2022-23 edition.
In addition, promotion and relegation between Leagues A-C will occur after the November matches. Here are the scenarios regarding promotion and relegation:
- League A: Fifth and sixth-place finishers will be relegated to League B.
- League B: Group winners will be promoted to League A and fourth-place finishers will be relegated to League C.
- League C: Group winners and the best second-place finisher will be promoted to League B.
