The U.S. Under-23 men’s national team enjoyed victory in its final friendly of the October international window.
Esmir Bajraktarevic and Obed Vargas both scored goals for Marko Mitrovic’s side in a 2-1 win over Concacaf rivals Mexico. Patrick Schulte delivered several key saves in his 90-minute performance in between the posts.
Bajraktarevic broke the deadlock in the 47th minute after drilling a left-footed shot into the bottom-left corner. It was the New England Revolution homegrown’s first goal for the Under-23’s.

Vargas, who entered the match in the 60th minute, delivered the second and final goal for the Americans ahead of the final whistle. It also marked the first goal for the Seattle Sounders midfielder with the USMNT U-23’s.
Several former MLS and current European players got the starting nod in Mitrovic’s lineup including Gianluca Busio, Tanner Tessmann, and Taylor Booth. Bernard Kamungo, Paxten Aaronson, Bryan Reynolds and Ben Cremaschi were among the players to feature off the bench in the second half.
The USMNT U-23’s close out its two-match schedule against Japan on Oct. 17.
COVID, paying the woman off, and a plethora of money spent on lawsuits over the last several years has done a lot of damage. Youth camps, coaching seminars, etc have all been cut back. Our fed is not rich. While streaming isn‘t hard you need someone willing to do it, pay for them and it, and set it up. It‘s simply just not worth the effort in many cases. Sorry. The 2026 windfall will remedy a lot, but until then it is the reality. Remember, USSF is a non profit that supports all sides of the game here, unlike most places which really only pay attention to the mens game. Sucks, but it is real. Complain all you want. That is reality. The USSF is money hungry, not because they are greedy, it‘s because they have been sucked dry in general by selfish interests, silly lawsuits and a pandemic.
US Soccer said in the roster release there would be no stream for Mexico, but Japan will be streamed on USSoccer.com
USYNT official twitter account was providing live updates last night.
Us soccer used to stream u17 all the way up to u23 games. Now their site barely has any articles about youth games. A shame our own federation doesn’t really promote their own product.
This is craziness. The Fed has to do better. This would not happen with Japan, Germany, England, Italy, China and other professionally run organizations.
Pitty that we can’t see the Forrest for the trees 🙁
Shame they didn’t air the game via TV or internet stream 😡! Happy about the win and congrats to the team for the W.
The US Soccer website at 10:50am Eastern the day after is still showing “awaiting kickoff”. The scores section of ESPN doesn’t even have this game listed let alone a result. A quick search shows only this article and one other (behind a paywall written by another blog/podcast host who lives in Phoenix and was a the game) talking about this game. No where is the starting lineup listed or even a summary. Somehow this seems very wrong to me….this is a good portion of the Olympic team, right?
Yep I noticed that too it kept saying waiting kickoff and froze.

Striker, I agree 100%. I spent time yesterday looking to see if there was a tv broadcast of this game in the US and there was not. It’s very disappointing, and to reiterate someone else’s comment on here, the federation has to do better. It’s another example of how US Soccer is a Mickey Mouse organization. I understand that everything is about money, but if there is a soccer game in the USA that will garner eyeballs, and in turn tv ratings, it is a game between the USA and Mexico. Shame on you, US Soccer, and the newly appointed individual that is in the position of Chief Commercial Officer.
Claro, Papi Grande! Yep USSF wildin for holding back like that and being money hungry 🐽, they made sure to have tickets available for sale on awful Ticketmaster.
