Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Sergino Dest

Sergino Dest is back to his regular starting role for Dutch side PSV.

Dest logged a strong 90 minutes on Saturday as Peter Bosz’s men defeated Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 at the Phillips Stadion. The U.S. men’s national team full back earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors for his positive showing in Eindhoven.

Dest completed 90% of his passes (57/63), won four duels, completed three dribbles, and made seven defensive recoveries from his right back position. The 24-year-old had recently jumped back into the starting lineup before the international break and looks to have reclaimed his spot for the reigning league champions.

Up next for PSV is a home UEFA Champions League date with Napoli on Tuesday before a trip to league-leading Feyenoord on October 26.

Here is a closer look at this week’s top Americans Abroad performances:

Folarin Balogun

It was a positive return to Ligue 1 play for Folarin Balogun.

Balogun scored his second goal of the season in Monaco’s 1-1 road draw with Angers. Despite the visitors coughing up a late lead on the road, the USMNT forward netted his second goal in the last eight days for club and country.

Balogun will aim to jump into this week’s starting lineup when Monaco hosts Tottenham in UEFA Champions League action.

Richie Ledezma

Richie Ledezma is becoming a key distributor for Liga MX club Chivas.

Ledezma registered his third league assist of the season on Saturday as Chivas defeated Mazatlan 2-0. The 25-year-old full back now has a goal contribution in three of his last four appearances as Chivas has won four matches in a row.

With four matches to go in the Apertura season, Ledezma and Chivas will seek a spot in the playoff rounds.

George Campbell

West Bromwich Albion manager Ryan Mason has continued to rely on George Campbell in his backline.

Campbell went the distance on Saturday as the Baggies defeated visiting Preston North End 2-1 at home. The former MLS product won four duels, made two tackles, and three clearances from his right back position.

Most importantly, West Brom has won two of its last three matches and is up to fifth place in the EFL Championship table.

Jonathan Tomkinson

It looks to be a smooth transition for American defender Jonathan Tomkinson at League Two side Cheltenham Town.

Tomkinson played the full 90 minutes as Steve Cotterill’s squad defeated Newport County 2-0 away from home. The 23-year-old won nine duels, completed five tackles, and made five interceptions as Cheltenham Town registered their second clean sheet of the month.
