Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Amon, Reyna, and more

Tuesday marked the first time in over three years that Jonathan Amon started a competitive match at club level and the American winger looked back to his old self.

Amon logged 79 minutes in Lyngby’s 5-4 penalty shootout victory over FC Helsingor in the DBU Pokalen competition. The 25-year-old made his season debut in late-July and has since been used as a substitute in each of the last four matches of the Superliagen campaign.

Amon earned his first start on Tuesday since October 2020, earning the opportunity he has long awaited for at club level. Lyngby entered the match with a three-match losing streak, but claimed a road victory to advance in the competition.

After back-to-back serious knee injuries, Amon will hope for continued improvement as Lyngby tries to finish in the top-six of the Superliagen table.

In Germany, Gio Reyna and John Brooks went head-to-head with Borussia Dortmund advancing in the DFB Pokal. Paxten Aaronson assisted once for Eintracht Frankfurt. Jordan Pefok scored twice in Borussia Moenchengladbach’s win.

In England, Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream were unused substitutes in Fulham’s EFL Cup win over Ipswich Town.

Elsewhere, Mark McKenzie and Genk advanced in the Belgian Cup. Luca De La Torre did not feature in Celta Vigo’s Copa Del Rey triumph. Taylor Booth and FC Utrecht advanced in the KNVB Cup in Holland.
