Niko Kovac “delighted” with Kevin Paredes’ development at Wolfsburg

Kevin Paredes has enjoyed back-to-back starts for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and it doesn’t look like manager Niko Kovac is planning to drop the American anytime soon.

Paredes is coming off a goalscoring performance last weekend for Wolfsburg, scoring the second goal in a 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen. The 20-year-old has featured in each of the last six matches for Wolfsburg across all competitions, showing off his versatility by playing in a number of different positions.

After enjoying a breakout campaign in 2022-23, Paredes is backed to have a positive European career if he continues to take the necessary steps in his development.

“Kevin is an asset to our team thanks to his enthusiasm for the game,” Kovac said following Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga draw last weekend. “No matter which position he plays in, whether it’s on the wing, at left back in the back three or at number eight.

“I’m delighted with this development and he’s not an American international for nothing,” he added. “He will continue to get his chance. If he continues to train so well and work hard, I can see a good future for him.”

Paredes joined Wolfsburg from DC United ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, but only made two appearances following his transfer. However, since then he has made 32 combined appearances, scoring two goals, registering three assists and featuring in Bundesliga and German Cup matches.

Kovac’s continued trust in Paredes has led to added playing time during October and November’s matches to date and should he continue to produce goals and assists, Paredes will only see a larger role heading into the winter.

Wolfsburg travels to Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday in its final match before the international break.
