It was a forgettable end to group stage play at the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the U.S. Under-17 men’s national team.
Gonzalo Segares’ squad did finish second in Group E but suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of France on Saturday morning. Inter Miami defender Tyler Hall was sent off in second-half stoppage time while France scored once before halftime and twice in the final minutes of the match.
Joan Tincres broke the deadlock for Les Bleus in first-half stoppage time, giving France a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish in the match.
Tincres added his second goal of the match in the 82nd minute before Bastien Meupiyou added an insurance goal just four minutes later.
Hall, who was brought on midway through the second half, was sent off in the 96th minute after receiving a straight red card.
The USMNT U-17’s will face Germany on Tuesday in Round of 16 play.
U-17’s missed several chances in front of goal to score, that continues to be the difference from us and higher level european teams at all levels! We won’t start to win against this level of opposition until we stop wasting chances, which was criminal in this game because I didn’t see much difference in the quality of the teams

Cremaschi headed goal off a cross from I think Bassett in the 29th. US 1-0.
Almost scored again as Esmir played a low ball across the box that Cremaschi just missed.
Iraq unlucky not to even it up before half. Pulskamp saved two and two more saved by the woodwork in the last 5 minutes before half. 1-0 USA HT.
1-1FT, Iraq scores on a free kick, hit it straight at the wall, two US defenders in the wall turned away and let the shot go right between them.
I watched from the 60th minute on, and Iraq was playing decent and giving the u23’s a game.
The goal that was given up was bad…need better decisions to hold on and close out the game.
The u23’s got caught on a counter attack, but the Iraqi attacker decided to take a negative touch, which allowed for 3 players around the ball, so because the Iraqi player was moving away from goal, and we had players around the ball, the foul was not needed. The wall was horrendous on the Iraqi free kick and goal.
Good looks, JR I caught the last 20 minutes. I was up early watching the U17s, forgot about the U23s. Btw- the game vs Japan is up to 180,00 views. Yes, Japanese fans are a chunk, however it confirms to me what this community has been saying. Americans want to see these youth teams play and are willing to watch matches if they are available. Almost as disappointing as the lost to U17 Les Bleus.
