One of the U.S. women’s national team’s veteran leaders is headed to the Women’s Super League.

Kristie Mewis has joined WSL side West Ham United, the London club announced Friday. The 32-year-old is coming off a title-winning NWSL campaign with NJ/NY Gotham FC, who finished the year as the NWSL’s best.

Mewis has made over 170 NWSL appearances, which also includes stops at the Washington Spirit, Houston Dash, and Chicago Red Stars. She won the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup with the Dash.

Internationally, Mewis has earned 53 caps with the USWNT, winning a Bronze Medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics and also lifting the SheBelieves Cup on three different occasions.

“I am delighted to be joining West Ham United,” she said in a club interview. “I have always wanted to play in the Women’s Super League and now that everything has fallen into place, it feels like a dream come true.

“When I visited London for the first time, I went to my first football match at Upton Park. The culture and energy of West Ham captivated me straightaway, and nothing has ever lived up to that moment, it was one of the happiest days of my life.”

West Ham sits ninth in the 10-team WSL standings, with only one win earned through 10 matches.
