Sean McAuley is not departing his current role as interim head coach of Minnesota United.

The Western Conference club announced Tuesday that McAuley continue in his role heading into the 2024 MLS season. 2024 will mark McAuley’s sixth year with the club after taking over as interim head coach for the final two matches last season.

“I am personally grateful for Sean’s leadership and his willingness to continue in this role,” said MNUFC CEO Shari Ballard. “I have full confidence that he and our current staff are best positioned to successfully lead the team at this time given their collective coaching experience and familiarity with our players and club.”

McAuley spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Orlando City SC and six seasons with the Portland Timbers, prior to making his move to Minnesota United. The Englishman began his coaching career in 2006 at English club Sheffield Wednesday, where he spent seven years developing the academy.

Newly appointed Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Khaled El-Ahmad will determine the timing and lead the process of the head coach search once he arrives in January.

The Loons finished 11th in the Western Conference, missing out on the final Wild Card berth by three points.
