Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Tillman, De La Torre, and more

PSV continued its unbeaten start to domestic competitions on Wednesday with Malik Tillman impressing in the heart of midfield.

Tillman started, registered one assist, and played 90 minutes as PSV defeated FC Twente 3-1 on home soil. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder also completed the most dribbles of any player in the match (2), while creating three offensive chances, and winning four duels. Tillman had been in and out of the lineup to close 2023, but now has back-to-back starts under his belt to begin the new year.

“I thought Malik was truly fantastic again today,” PSV manager Peter Bosz said postmatch.

With PSV aiming to not only lift two domestic trophies this season, but also advance in the UEFA Champions League, Tillman’s productivity will only lead to more playing time this winter.

PSV next travels to FC Utrecht on Sunday in Eredivisie play.

In England, Chris Richards started, but Crystal Palace suffered FA Cup elimination.

In Italy, Tim Weah came off the bench in Juventus’ Serie A victory over Sassuolo.

In Spain, Luca De La Torre impressed in Celta Vigo’s Copa Del Rey win over Valencia.

    • It’s kind of strange ter Stegan is hurt that’s why Diego is dressing (they only have 2 first team keepers). The other backup is 19 and plays sometimes for Barca B. When terStegan went out originally the other Barca B keeper was the third keeper. It seems barring a Pena injury before terStegan returns that Kochen will not actually see game time. Spain has started sniffing around at Diego for their YNT.
