Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Balogun, Turner, and more

Folarin Balogun’s goalscoring drought has surpassed two months and AS Monaco could surely use an impactful performance from him this weekend in Ligue 1 play.

AS Monaco visits Marseille in the weekend’s headlining contest in France, pitting fourth and seventh against one another. Balogun has not found the back of the net since November 24 and will be eager to end his streak in a crucial matchup. The U.S. men’s national team forward is coming off a 90-minute performance in Coupe De France play as Monaco defeated Rodez 3-1 away from home.

With no goals or no assists in his last five appearances, Balogun’s production could surely lead Monaco to an impressive road win this Saturday.

In England, Matt Turner and Nottingham Forest visit Bristol City in FA Cup play. Auston Trusty and Sheffield United take on Brighton & Hove Albion.

In Italy, Weston McKennie, Tim Weah and Juventus square off with Empoli in Serie A. Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and AC Milan face Bologna.

Comments

  1. Hmmm……I know they haven’t exactly come calling but Gio Reyna would be an excellent fit at Monaco. They love playing with a 3-4-2-1 / 3-5-2 / 3-4-3 formations and right now he would be competing with:

Takumi Minamino (29 years old / attacking midfielder / Japan national team)
Youssouf Fofana (25 years old / midfielder / the France national team)
Aleksandr Golovin (27 years old / attacking midfielder / captains the Russia national team)
Krépin Diatta (24 years old / winger / Senegal national team)
Edan Diop (19 years old / midfielder)
Maghnes Akliouche (21 years old / attacking midfielder)

Gio would be able to find first team minutes on this team. Folarin Balogun and Rio Reyna on one team, training. developing, battling and playing with each other, day on day out, on a team sitting 4th in Ligue 1……..priceless. That would be an awesome.
