Celta Vigo’s three-match winless run was halted on Sunday with American playmaker Luca De La Torre excelling for the visitors at Osasuna.
De La Torre scored one goal and registered one assist in Celta Vigo’s 3-0 road victory on Sunday. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder set up Jorgen Strand Larsen’s opening goal in the 24th minute before doubling Celta Vigo’s lead on the ensuing kickoff for a 2-0 advantage. De La Torre also completed two tackles and won four duels in the match as Celta Vigo rebounded from three-straight defeats in all competitions.
It’s been a positive start to 2024 for De La Torre, who now has three goals and two assists across all competitions this year.

NJ guy again stuck in DC,
It was 12 -13 min.
All things being equal, it was a good appearance. A lot of remarkable things can happen in 12 minutes but nothing really did.
These days the narrative around Gio dwells on the extremes. He did not show himself to be the diva shitbag USMNT fans think him to be. He also did not show himself to be the USMNT candidate for the Balon D’or.
What we got was Gio looking pretty comfortable and confident. For 13 minutes.
So nothing bad yet.
Benny made a living of off that golazo against El Tri in the 2007 Gold Cup final. Then he did nothing until the 2010 World Cup, where he was a valuable sub. After that he did nothing of note the rest of his career.
Gio should have a lot more time to do something of note with his career.
Anyone see Gio’s performance?
Tidy 12 mins.
Yeah, good first touches and passing, but nothing out of the ordinary. Bournemouth were pretty aggressive, but Gio did ok, especially for just coming from Dortmund and being plugged into a new team / system.
I posted this in another forum / thread on this site. Probably belonged in this one.
Gio was subbed on at the 78th minute for RW Elanga, but was slotted at the LW. Score was 1-1 at the time of Gio subbing on.
Below are some thoughts on the good, the bad, and the opportunities for improvement, for Gio’s first performance with Nottingham.
I will pre-empt the info below by acknowledging that I have no idea what Gio’s tactical instructions where by the NFFC coaching staff when he was preparing to sub on. The info below are general thoughts and based on the 4-2-3-1 formation.
Bad –
– Off the ball he does not show a good work rate, including not working hard to get goal side. If that continues, EPL teams will pick that up on video analysis and he will be exposed, including when they switch the field of play quickly and counter quickly
– He wants to be on the ball too much. This a problem if he is slotted as a winger
Opportunities for improvement –
– If he is playing on the wing, he must stay wide, unless the outside back is overlapping, and also look to stretch the defense.
– He needs to learn to play better with Gibbs- White…if formation is 4-2-3-1, and Gio is on the wing, he needs to work off the ball to create a passing option for Gibbs- White and / or making incisive runs for Gibbs-White
– When he is floating and “playing as #10,” he needs to look to play positive and / or direct more often, versus just keeping possession.
Good –
– Showed his technical skill and playmaking ability is up to snuff for EPL
– Showed enough to get some time as the #10 in this formation
– Defensively, and on the ball, he showed an above average work rate
From this initial run, there is nothing objective which indicates a reason to be worried about Gio getting injured because he is playing in the EPL, as there were no signs or incidents in this game of him getting kicked.
Thanks for the report. He’s really gotta step up his work rate in the premiership. It’s his for the taking but we’ll see. Worse case he turns out to be a more talented Benny Feilhaber who lets his attitude get in the way of his early 20s.
