Sunday’s Eredivisie showdown between Taylor and Zach Booth proved to be a memorable day for them and their family.
Taylor scored his first-career hat trick while Zach scored once in FC Utrecht’s 4-2 league victory over FC Volendam. It marked the first head-to-head showdown between the American attackers since their respective moves to the Netherlands.
FC Volendam struck first in the ninth minute after Zach Booth finished off Bilal Ouid-Chikh’s cross for a 1-0 lead. It marked the Leicester City loanee’s first goal of the season.
However, Taylor would equalized for FC Utrecht in the 38th minute, receiving a pass from Sam Lammers and drilling a low shot into the bottom-left corner. It was Taylor’s second goal off the season and first since December 20.
After Nick Viergever and Josh Flint traded goals of their own, Booth propelled FC Utrecht in front 3-2 with a nicely-place shot.
The 22-year-old would cap off his Man of the Match performance in the 84th minute, this time slotting home with his left foot in the 84th minute. FC Utrecht would hang on for its first league victory since December 10, snapping a five-match winless run in all competitions.
The result moves FC Utrecht into 11th place in the Eredivisie table while FC Volendam sits in 17th, seven points from safety.
Ron Jans’ squad next hosts Fortuna Sittard on Feb. 11 while FC Volendam hosts league-leaders PSV on the same day.
IV,
“i don’t know if holland is as into flexing for the sake of displaying who is boss.”
You’re being silly. The clubs pay the players, they own them. The USMNT just borrows them.
The clubs are the boss . If you pay someone’s salary you’re their boss.
But where the wiggle room comes from the clubs is in their desire to keep good relations with the player. On the one hand, if you are a precocious hot shot, the clubs don’t want to alienate you. But on the other hand they are loathe to risk their prized assets in Youth Tournament crap like the Olympics.
Do you think BVB were happy that Gio came back from international duty with a hairline fracture in his leg?
How different does this entire Gio soap opera look if some Canadian does not break Gio’s fucking leg?
JR, Paxon didn’t get released for U20 which i think is more psretigeous than the Olympics. I guess it is a gamble that they will shine and the club can sell at a profit but not being a FIFA event, the clubs aren’t under any obligation to release players. From a business standpoint, it just seems like an unessary risk for injury or even a crappy showing the could lower the value of a player. I guess some teams have to release their players otherwise their would be no teams to play …
True, but Olympics are fully in summer, whereas U20s were starting during the final two weeks of the season. I’m doubtful about a lot of these guys getting regular minutes being released but big teams released guys last time. Just depends on the club.
Maybe my glass is half full of hemlock, but I don’t see many European based players getting released for the Olympics.
Guys like Macallister for Argentina and Cucarella for Spain were released for Tokyo by Getafe and Man City. Richarlison was released by Everton despite being an important piece. Kessie was released having scored 13g for Milan the year before. Looking thru the squads from last time as long as you weren’t a first choice starter you could get a release or you were from lower leagues. Utrecht is a selling team so if they think he can improve his stock, maybe. Being in the same general area and time zone as the Olympic site can’t hurt either. The same with say Reynolds or Yow at Westerloo, they probably wouldn’t mind a pay day if they can get one. Certainly guys in 2nd divisions or lower leagues like Denmark will be available. Sorry no Gio, Pepi, or Malik though.
Good to see Taylor getting back to his best after some injury issues.
Hope Zach continues to develop well.
Both Olympic eligible. Zach’s first professional goal and Taylor’s first league goal since before WC.
It was three really nice finishes from Taylor…where has that been all season?
You think their Dutch clubs will really release them to play?
Taylor not sure, had The Netherlands qualified it would be a better chance. Taylor was invited to both fall camps so you have to think they haven’t been told definitely no. The Eredivisie is a selling league so perhaps they’re hoping to showcase him. Zach is just on loan so it depends on where Leicester see him. If they get promoted you’d figure he’s still a few seasons away from EPL ready so why not if you’re just going to loan him somewhere.
Che another one in the Netherlands but on loan and in 2nd division. It come down to guys like Jose Gallegos in Danish 2nd or Bryang Kayo in 3Bundesliga, Kobe Hernandez Foster in Norway. Guys that have been mostly forgotten that clubs would be willing to let try to showcase themselves.
if you look at the timing, my guess is men’s olympic final 8/9 (best case, might be done sooner), probably eredivisie opening weekend 8/10-11. they usually start mid-august. you could make that work and lose maybe a weekend or two. which, let’s be blunt, is the real issue. they pretend they need to be in camp. but for guys from world cups or euros they often give them games off post-tournament to rest.
to me it’s more of a “flex.” i don’t know if holland is as into flexing for the sake of displaying who is boss.
