Revolution roll to book Champions Cup Round of 16 berth

The New England Revolution rolled on Thursday night to clinch their spot into the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16.

Nacho Gil, Tomas Chancalay, and Mark-Anthony Kaye all scored while Henrich Ravas registered his second clean sheet in a 3-0 second leg triumph over Independiente de La Chorrera. Caleb Porter’s men advanced 4-0 on aggregate, setting up a Round of 16 clash with Costa Rican side Alajuelense.

The Gil brothers connected on the opening goal of the match, which was finished off by Nacho Gil in the sixth minute. Carles Gil’s through ball pass allowed Nacho the opportunity to sneak behind the Chorrera backline before slotting home into the bottom-left corner.

It was his first goal for the club.

Tomas Chancalay, who scored the winning goal in last week’s first leg, doubled the Revs lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute. Esmir Bajraktarevic’s set-up allowed Chancalay the chance to drill a right-footed shot home.

Kaye entered the match as an 85th minute substitute and would deliver the final say in the tie. The Canadian midfielder’s left-footed shot nestled into the bottom-left corner for a 3-0 final score.

The Revs will resume MLS play on Sunday with a home match against Toronto FC.
