Tyler Adams features for Bournemouth’s developmental squad

Tyler Adams has officially made his first appearance of 2024.

Adams featured for Bournemouth’s developmental squad on Tuesday in a 5-0 win over Colchester United’s Under-21 side. The match was played behind closed doors at Bournemouth’s training facility.

The 25-year-old Adams had been sidelined since last October following hamstring surgery. Adams originally suffered his injury last April while at Leeds United, which forced him to miss the summer schedule and the beginning of Bournemouth’s English Premier League campaign.

After making his club debut last October against Stoke City in EFL Cup play, Adams re-aggravated his injury which led to a second surgery of 2023.

Adams’ availability remains unknown for the U.S. men’s national team’s upcoming CONCACAF Nations League schedule. The USMNT faces Jamaica on March 21 in the semifinal round, with a potential final looming for the third-straight edition of the tournament.

Adams was part of Gregg Berhalter’s 60-player preliminary roster and remains eligible to make Berhalter’s final roster later this month.

“Copa America I think is something that is more realistic, but I wouldn’t rule out Nations League because (Adams) is training with his team now,” Berhalter said in an interview with The Athletic earlier this week. “He’s back to training. So there’s possibilities.”

Bournemouth’s league schedule continues on Saturday with a home showdown vs. Sheffield United. Should Adams remain with the developmental squad, their next match is against Cardiff City’s U-21 squad on March 15.

  1. Please do not call him for nations league, let the guy work himself back into form with his club. He needs first team minutes and games first.

    • I agree, and with Chris Richards having so much playing time at Defensive mid this season and getting regular time all season long, I don’t think we need to call him. Johnny Cardoso AND Luca De la Torre are playing well and they could both link up with Musah and Reyna or Musah and McKennie if Weston is not out due to his shoulder injury.

I rather see Tyler get back in his club’s rotation and hopefully start a few matches at the end of the season so he can by sharp come June for the Copa America

      • did you not watch LDLT being thrown around like a rag doll last year? he’s not a 6. i don’t even think he’s “8 enough” for the productivity and go-to-goal we really need from the AMs.

i think richards should be a CB because we need those too. i think some of the others can give it a go at 6. i would like to see twin 6s with reyna at 10 so one thing i’d have like to have seen is more ballwinning DM types in the pool so we could call 4 of them. then reyna and a backup 10 who goes to goal.

    • I would call him in, but strictly for the purpose of being around the team, ala Aaron Long and others over the years who were called in to be around the squad while nursing or rehabbing injuries!

      • If I’m Bournemouth I don’t agree to that. His injury history is sketchy enough that they would, I think want him to stick with it there instead of doing a lot of excess travel.

    • i think the better choice would be copa. summer tournaments are usually a long camp for a few weeks and you can work on a guy’s fitness, rotate him, manage minutes. this is basically a normal window and i wouldn’t trust you can get him fit fast enough nor would i risk injury. you’re either ready to play 90 or not — and he’s not.
