Olivier Giroud is officially on his way to MLS.
LAFC have signed the longtime French international forward to a one-and-a-half-year Designated Player contract through 2025. Giroud’s contract also includes an option year for 2026.
Giroud’s 57 international goals are the most in France national team history. He helped Les Bleus win the 2018 FIFA World Cup, reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final, and win the 2021 UEFA Nations League title, alongside current LAFC teammate Hugo Lloris.
His 18-year professional career features stops at Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, and Montpellier. Giroud has won 11 major trophies, while totaling close to 300 goals in over 700 club appearances.
Most recently, Giroud helped AC Milan win the Serie A title during the 2021-22 campaign. He will depart the Rossoneri at the conclusion of the current league campaign.
“It is an incredibly exciting day for all associated with LAFC to welcome Olivier, his wife Jennifer, and his family to the club,” LAFC Co-President& General Manager John Thorrington said. “Olivier has a clear hunger to win, which he has done consistently throughout his club and international career. His championship ambition and his qualities as a man and as a player directly align with ours as a club, therefore we believe Olivier will be a great addition as we continue in our pursuit of more trophies.”
LAFC will now have Giroud, Denis Bouanga, and Carlos Vela to call on this summer as Steve Cherundolo’s squad aims for a return to MLS Cup.
A wealthy, good looking athlete with a French accent moving to southern California WITH HIS WIFE JENNIFER come on people.
“LAFC will now have Giroud, Denis Bouanga, and Carlos Vela to call on this summer ”
…
Who say? When did he re-sign?
Yeah, that got my attention too.
I was also like “holy shite” if it’s true, because even an old Carlos Vela and an even older Giroud – with a still youngish Denis Bouanga running off them – would be capable of, well, some truly extraordinary and very pretty stuff, even if LAFC is going to need to monitor Vela and Giroud’s minutes if they want to keep them out of the shop.
It’d be a compelling watch, for sure.
