Konrad De La Fuente is on the move yet again, but this time in a permanent move to Switzerland.
FC Lausanne has acquired De La Fuente from Ligue 1 side Marseille, both clubs announced Wednesday. The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Lausanne, ending a frustrating spell in France.
De La Fuente made the move to Barcelona’s La Masia at 11-years-old and proceeded to feature for several youth teams in Spain. He scored 13 goals and added seven assists in 43 combined appearances for Barcelona’s B team and Under-19 side.
He also made three senior appearances for Barcelona before moving to Marseille.
Marseille loaned De La Fuente to Spanish side Eibar, as well as Greek club Olympiakos. He most recently scored four goals in 24 appearances with Eibar in the Spanish second-tier.
A former U.S. youth national team standout, De La Fuente has earned three senior caps with the USMNT.
Lausanne opened its league schedule last week with a 3-2 home win over FC Basel.
I had hoped MLS Teams might have had a play for him. He would be tantalizing on the dribble and excite fans.
I thought he was switching to play for Haiti?
I believe he would have to wait until September 2025 because it’s four years since your last cap if you played in a first team event (in this case qualifying). I suppose he could file at any point but can’t play until then so that would be pointless.
KDLF seems to be going lower and lower in terms of league strength, so while this may be a good move to get minutes I don’t know where this puts him in the grande scheme of things, but he certainly is nowhere near being in consideration for the USMNT
Good for him but if KDLF had not had that run with Barca, I doubt anyone here would be paying anywhere near as much attention to him.
With emerging Americans there is always the theory that , if he could just get more playing time, then he would become “world class” or something like it.
Sometimes, when they get more PT, it becomes clear why they did not get more PT at their previous club.
Hopefully a good move for him.
