Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Carter-Vickers, Turner, and more

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic continued to hold the top spot in the Scottish Premiership after earning three points at home on Wednesday night.

Carter-Vickers made his first start since September 18, logging 76 minutes as Brendan Rodgers’ men defeated Dundee FC 2-0. The U.S. men’s national team defender started alongside fellow compatriot Auston Trusty, helping Celtic to its ninth league victory of the campaign.

Second-half goals from Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels propelled the Hoops to three points, keeping them ahead of Aberdeen on goal differential.

Carter-Vickers, who missed time due to a toe injury this fall, looks back and ready to go as Celtic prepares for its Scottish League Cup semifinal on Saturday. The 26-year-old will aim to retain his starting spot as Hampden Park hosts Celtic’s showdown with Aberdeen.

In England, Matt Turner won in his Crystal Palace debut as the Eagles advanced to the EFL Cup quarterfinals. Duane Holmes and Preston North End suffered elimination at the hands of Arsenal.

In Italy, Weston McKennie and Tim Weah both scored in Juventus’ home draw with Parma.

In Germany, Cole Campbell and Joe Scally were among the American players to suffer DFB Pokal elimination.
