Tyler Adams back available for Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth will have American midfielder Tyler Adams available for the first time this Premier League season.

Adams, who has not yet featured this season, has been listed as available by Cherries boss Andoni Iraola on Friday. The 25-year-old had been sidelined following back surgery last summer.

Adams featured in all three of the Americans’ Copa America group stage matches, fighting through back spasms to be part of the action. However, the U.S. men’s national team midfielder was forced to undergo surgery, which has delayed his return to club action with Bournemouth.

“Everyone is going to be available. Different cases,” Iraola said Friday. “The case of Tyler, he hasn’t played a lot so he might lack some game time which is normal. He has trained very well. He is ready. The same with Milos [Kerkez]. He is feeling better. We still have to train today so we will see but yesterday they both trained.”

The former New York Red Bulls homegrown moved to Bournemouth from Leeds United in Summer 2023 but has only made one start since then. Adams underwent a pair of hamstring surgeries in 2023 which has also hampered his time on the South Coast.

Adams’ absence has been a major loss for both the Cherries and the USMNT this year, forcing others to step up at both club and international level. A return against Arsenal would provide Adams with a positive start to hopeful USMNT involvement during the CONCACAF Nations League Quarterfinals this November.

The Cherries host Arsenal on Saturday before visiting Aston Villa seven days later in Birmingham.

    ??? Major loss?

Bournemouth is 11th and just beat Arsenal 2-0. They seem to be doing just fine and as rusty as Tyler is, it may be a while before he gets back to his old self, if ever.

The USMNT needs to take a book out of their page because Tyler has not been a significant contributor for nearly two years.
