Haji Wright will not take part in Coventry City’s return to EFL Championship play on Saturday.
Wright remains sidelined with an ankle injury, Sky Blues interim manager Rhys Carr confirmed Friday. The U.S. men’s national team forward missed international duty as the Americans advanced to the CONCACAF Nations League semifinals following a 5-2 aggregate victory over Jamaica.
Wright suffered the injury in Coventry’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland back on Nov. 9 after scoring his seventh goal of the season. The 26-year-old has remained a key attacker for the Sky Blues this season, but his return remains unknown as the league schedule resumes.
“Everyone saw it,” Carr told BBC CWR about Wright’s ankle injury. “It was a bit of a nasty tweak he’s got on his ankle. He’s with the care of our medical team now. We want him fit as quickly as possible.”
Wright has scored 26 goals in 67 combined appearances for Coventry City since joining the club ahead of the 2023-24 season. Despite his best efforts though, the club parted ways with longtime manager Mark Robins and sit 18th in the league table.
The Sky Blues face a busy seven day period with matches against Sheffield United, Burnley and Cardiff City to close November’s schedule.
