Christian Pulisic out until 2025 with torn calf muscle

Christian Pulisic won’t play any further part of AC Milan’s December matches.

Pulisic suffered a torn calf muscle in Friday’s 2-1 loss to Atalanta, which will sideline him for multiple weeks, AC Milan announced. The U.S. men’s national team star was replaced in the 37th minute of Friday’s match and unfortunately will miss the Rossoneri’s final matches of the calendar year.

Despite Rossoneri manager Paulo Fonseca admitting postmatch that the injury didn’t look “too serious”, 26-year-old Pulisic will face his first sidelined spell of the season.

Pulisic has been one of AC Milan’s best players this season, totaling eight goals and six assists in 19 combined appearances. The Pennsylvania native has helped the Rossoneri remain near the top six in Serie A, while also picking up crucial league phase results in the UEFA Champions League.

The Rossoneri have four final matches this year, with three of those coming in domestic play.

AC Milan faces Red Star Belgrade in UCL play on Wednesday before Serie A matches against Genoa, Hellas Verona, and AS Roma.

Pulisic’s absence comes during an open period for the USMNT, who won’t be back in competitive action until March 2025.

  1. fwiw in recent interviews pulisic and mckennie say anti-american bias over there is real. pulisic points to negative outcomes in 50/50 “who starts” situations between him and some other player. mckennie says every year at juve it’s like he’s starting over. zlatan disagrees with them about bias but then couches his disagreement as the level is different ie we aren’t as good. so same diff.

    • Still growth in that they are now getting contracts. 15 yrs ago and certainly 30 years ago guys like Aaronson or Pepi wouldn’t even have offers above the Swedish league or Denmark. Now they are signing in Bundesliga or EPL.

    • OOOOOHHHH YEAH. its real> American players and American coaches have to prove themselves, do more, and avoid more mistakes than their European teammates

      Mckennie:
“I go through it most of the time,” McKennie said. “Whenever I’m at Juventus, every year, somehow I’m on the outs and I’m ready to be discarded. Every summer it’s like I’m a new player coming in, having to make a name for myself.

“And it’s like, ‘When are you guys just going to finally see that I can play on this level, and I’m good enough for this level, and I’ve done it enough times?

“But that’s why Americans are the way we are, because we always have this chip on our shoulder when we come to Europe.”

      Pulisic:
“For sure it’s out there,” Pulisic said. “It pisses me off in a way because I’ve seen it in front of my eyes. It happens for sure, you can feel it.

He added: “If it comes down to me or them, and it’s a 50/50 call from the coach who’s going to play or something like that, I think it exists.”

We are getting better though, and I hope this underdog mindset helps build strong character

Say who? Like what did you expect those guys to say?

“We are getting better though, and I hope this underdog mindset helps build strong character”

If CP and Weston did not already have strong character they never would have got to Europe in the first place.

A lot of people seem to consistently underestimate two things:

        1. What a real big deal is to leave home when you are about 15,16 or whatever and do what they have done. You want character? Landon could not do it but CP and Weston have already demonstrated their character many times.

        2. How really , really tough it is for any player from anywhere to get a job in those top clubs in Europe.

I get that Weston and CP say those things about bias. Michael Bradley used to say it too. But did you really expect any of them to say anything else? Let’s see what they have to say after they have managed an EPL, Serie A or BL club. Then maybe they will know what the fuck they are talking about.

Are you telling me that Bosz uses Tillman, Pepi, Dest and Richie because they are Americans or does he use them because they can do what he needs?

Look at the NBA. Why do they play all them furriners like that Greek guy in Milwaukee? Probably because they make their coaches lives better.

Do you think Americans should not have to prove that they are better than whoever is the alternative? And who judges that? SBI, CP and Weston?

Or the manager who , if he gets it wrong, gets fired?

      • Oddly the worst Pulisic probably faced was under an American owner who kept spending money on guys to replace him.

      • JR,

I wonder what those other nationalities think about all the Americans playing under the reign of American Earnie Stewart, bff of the Reynas.?
I wonder what the Swansea fans thought of their American owners hiring Bob? Or the players at Lyon and Venezia think of the American owners of those teams bringing in the likes of Tessman and Busio?

There is a case to be made that Americans will soon have ownership in most of the big clubs in Europe and the EPL.

Don’t like “bias” against American players? Solve it the American way, with money.

I’m told they don’t discriminate against American players in the NFL. But then again, the NFL does still cut a lot of American players.

      • V: win and it doesn’t matter. ManU largely didn’t win compared to their history fans didn’t like the American owners. Liverpool rose back to the top American owners were fine. Venezia made it up and back up when they are historically lower division they love the owner. The Krause group from my home state of Iowa got Parma back to Serie A so fans like them especially if they could get the stadium built (they are having the same problem in Des Moines). Why does Wrexham like Rob and Ryan because they’re investing and winning. Why does Wrexham Milan fans like CP when Chelsea didn’t? Because he’s stayed healthy and productive.
