Coventry City could desperately use Haji Wright’s services under new manager Frank Lampard, but unfortunately the wait will continue.
Wright will miss the Sky Blues’ EFL Championship trip to Millwall on Saturday, Lampard confirmed to reporters Friday. The U.S. men’s national team forward has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury on November 9 against Sunderland.
Wright, 27, has scored seven goals in 17 league appearances for Coventry City this season. However, despite his best efforts, the Sky Blues parted ways with former manager Mark Robins earlier this fall before hiring Lampard to take over.
Lampard, who has previously worked with fellow USMNT players Christian Pulisic and Duane Holmes, will have a new opportunity to work with Wright later this winter. The former England international admitted Wright is making progress in his injury rehabilitation, but can’t put a timeline on when he will return.
“He’s progressing pretty well. I haven’t really got a time frame for you at the minute,” Lampard said in his prematch press conference. “It’s one of the disappointments of coming in, not having him ready right now but it’s a busy period and we’re hoping he’s back soon.”
Coventry City face Millwall on Saturday before five additional matches this month.
