Tyler Adams earns first Premier League assist in Bournemouth rout

Bournemouth has continued to be one of the major surprises in the English Premier League this season.

Tyler Adams registered his first league assist as Andoni Iraola’s Cherries routed Newcastle United 4-1 at St. James Park. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder excelled once again for Bournemouth, logging 90 minutes and setting up Justin Kluivert for his hat trick goal.

Kluvert propelled the visiting Cherries in front after nine minutes before Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes equalized in the 25th minute. The Dutch forward Kluivert grabbed his second goal of the day made it 2-1 heading into halftime.

Adams’ smart play in midfield helped Kluivert register his second hat trick of the season. An interception-turned-pass from Adams allowed the 25-year-old to rifle home into the bottom-left corner.

Milos Kerkez added Bournemouth’s fourth and final goal of the day, sealing a lopsided win on Tyneside.

Adams won five duels, made four tackles, drew one foul, and made two interceptions from his midfield position.

Bournemouth sits sixth following the result and next hosts Nottingham Forest and Liverpool in back-to-back matches.

“Andoni actually told us at the beginning of the season we only picked up two points last season against the top six, and this season we’re finding that confidence to play with the big boys and we’re showing that week in, week out now,” Adams told TNT Sport postmatch. “As long as we have this belief I think anything’s possible. I have belief in this team.”
