Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Cardoso, Adams, and more

Real Betis will aim to have a vital say in the La Liga title race with Real Madrid coming to town on Saturday.

Johnny Cardoso and his Betis teammates seek a major upset in league play. Cardoso has remained a constant performer in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad this season, logging 30 appearances across multiple competitions. The 23-year-old has featured in over 2,100 minutes, rarely putting a foot wrong in the starting lineup.

A showdown with Real Madrid will be Cardoso’s toughest test of the season, but the U.S. men’s national team midfielder should be up to the challenge. Seventh-place Betis could jump into the top-six with three points against Los Blancos.

In England, Tyler Adams and Bournemouth face Wolves for the second-consecutive weekend. Ethan Horvath and Matt Turner seek FA Cup starts.

In Germany, Gio Reyna aims to retain his starting spot for Borussia Dortmund. Joe Scally and Borussia Moenchengladbach seek a bounce-back win.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan host Lazio. Tim Weah and Juventus face Hellas Verona.

In France, Mark McKenzie and Toulouse take on Angers. Tanner Tessmann host Stade Brest.

Elsewhere, Alex Zendejas and Frankie Amaya face off in Mexico. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic travel to St. Mirren. Jonathan Amon and Lyngby visit Brondby. Rokas Pukstas and Hajduk Split take on Dinamo Zagreb. George Bello and LASK aims for a second-straight goalscoring performance.

  1. Arnie Chase has not started for Stuttgart since Christmas wow. Cannot believe the Rollercoaster from first team starter back to second reserve team.

    • All I could find was from USMNTProspects on Twitter. The account said he had had some mistakes and had loss favor with the manager. Then there was a quote from the manager a week or two ago that said Chase wasn’t playing with full team so they sent him to the Reserve team because he needed minutes and the Reserve were struggling and needed a boost. Sounds not unlike Noahkai Banks who has been stuck on the bench the last couple weeks after being responsible for an own goal.
