Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Weah, Adams, and more

Tim Weah’s versatility has continued to be on display for Juventus this season.

Weah most recently logged 90 minutes at right back as the Serie A took one step into booking its place into the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Now, the U.S. men’s national team winger/wing back will aim to retain his spot as the Bianconeri hosts Inter Milan in Serie A play this weekend.

Weah has featured at five different positions in Thiago Motta’s squad this season, mainly serving out wide. The 24-year-old has tallied five goals and two assists in league play, while also adding two additional assists in other competitions.

Weah has not shied away from the competition this season, which could open the door to a new role with the USMNT this March. However, the focus remains on Juventus and picking up a major rivalry victory on Sunday.

In England, Tyler Adams and Bournemouth take on South Coast rivals Southampton. Josh Sargent and Norwich City visit Hull City. Donovan Pines and Barnsley face promotion rivals Huddersfield Town.

In Germany, James Sands and St. Pauli host Freiburg. Noahkai Banks and Augsburg kick off the weekend’s schedule against RB Leipzig.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso and Real Betis host Real Sociedad.

In France, Tanner Tessmann and Lyon visit Montpellier. Lindsey Horan and Lyon’s women’s team resumes their league schedule.

Elsewhere in Italy, Yunus Musah and AC Milan take on Hellas Verona.

Elsewhere, Cade Cowell and Frankie Amaya square off in Mexico. George Bello and LASK travel to Grazer. Marlon Fossey and Standard Liege host Genk. Matthew Hoppe begins his competitive schedule with Sonderjyske. Auston Trusty and Celtic host Dundee United in SPFL play.

  1. Yes, Karsdorp has an injury so it’s Richie at RB for the foreseeable future. I couldn’t find any updates on Sergino, how close he is to a return. I’m not a RB expert but I’d give Richie quite a bit of fault on Paxten’s goal.

  2. I tell you one player who has absolutely become indispensable for his club, is Tanner Tessmann. Perhaps soon to become so for the USMNT. #TT90

  3. U17s qualify for the WC in November. The tournament has been expanded to 48 teams. Format is 4, 12 team mini-tournaments. Three group stage matches then semis and final. The four winners of the mini-tournaments then advance to the final four. Group stage winners and one 2nd place advance to knockouts so just getting out of the group will be difficult. If Hall, Sullivan, and Albert play it could be fun. So root for Philly and RBNY to miss the playoffs.

  4. Paxten out jumps Ledezma to go up 2-1. Utrecht missed an easy one right after PSV tied it. PSV lucky to get a point. No creativity without Malik and backline still stinks. PSV’s main offensive strategy was letting Ledezma hit 30 yard diagonals hoping they’d find a head. Lange can get by people as he did on the second goal but mostly it goes to Perisic who dribbles around and creates little.
