Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Richards, Banks, and more

Chris Richards and Crystal Palace have already gotten the better of reigning English Premier League champions Liverpool once this season and Oliver Glasner’s Eagles will be seeking to do the same in EFL Cup play this week.

Richards and Crystal Palace visit Arne’s Slot Liverpool on Wednesday, knowing a victory over the Reds would advance them to the quarterfinals of the cup competition. The Eagles have had a busy fall so far, with UEFA Conference League action and Premier League action continuing to push forward.

Richards has made 12 appearances this season for the Eagles, but did not feature in a 1-0 midweek loss to AEK Larnaca. The USMNT’s No. 1 centerback option remains a vital part of the squad and could be among those players to come back into Glasner’s starting lineup at Anfield.

In Germany, the DFB Pokal competition rolls on with Malik Tillman, Noahkai Banks, and James Sands among the players to watch.

In Italy, Serie A play continues as Weston McKennie and Juventus take on Udinese while Christian Pulisic and AC Milan visit Atalanta. Yunus Musah is ineligible to play in this match due to his current loan spell.

In France, Tanner Tessmann and Mark McKenzie headline the American contingent continuing Ligue 1 play this week.

Elsewhere, Benji Michel and HJK visit Ilves in Finnish league action. Bryan Reynolds and Westerlo visit Beerschot in Belgian Cup play. Auston Trusty and Celtic host Falkirk in Scottish Premiership action. Rokas Pukstas and Hajduk Split seek advancement in the Croatian Cup, as does George Bello and LASK in Austria. Jordan Pefok and Tondela take on Benfica, seeking a major upset in Portuguese Cup play.

    • The Netherlands are a solid nation. That’s the thing about knockouts at the WC level if you don’t finish your chances you leave yourself at risk.

      • Oh I get that, but it seems the women’s side gets a pass. They have been pretty poor at youth tournaments as of late.

  1. “Yunus Musah is ineligible to play for Atalanta against his parent club.”

I don’t know because he is on the bench for Atalanta. Though Atalanta SOMEHOW HAS A 14 – MAN BENCH lol.
