Taylor Booth’s time at FC Utrecht has come to its end.
FC Twente acquired Booth in a permanent deal from FC Utrecht, both clubs announced Tuesday. Booth signed a three-and-a-half-year contract, taking him until June 2028.
“When I heard of FC Twente’s interest, I immediately knew that this was the club for me where I can show myself by working hard,” said Booth. “FC Twente is of course a big club and then the decision is not difficult. With FC Twente, I want to force a European place this season and that will be the focus in the coming months. In the back of my mind is also the World Cup that I would like to play in my home country next year. By showing myself at FC Twente, I think I have a good chance of being there.”
The 23-year-old winger joined FC Utrecht from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022.
He scored six goals in 21 combined appearances last season before a knee injury derailed his campaign. Booth’s positive season led to FC Utrecht signing him to a contract extension in July 2024.
Booth has struggled for playing time this season under Ron Jans, making just nine appearances for FC Utrecht. He last featured in first-team action on December 1 against PSV.
In total, Booth has totaled eight goals and four assists in 58 appearances for the club.
“Taylor Booth has shown at FC Utrecht what a good football player he is, a player with enormous intensity,” says FC Twente technical director Arnold Bruggink. “We are very happy that he is coming to strengthen our selection. Taylor is a multifunctional and creative player who has a great drive to achieve his goals, as all American athletes have. We have a lot of confidence that he will live up to expectations.”
On the international level, Booth played in all four of the U.S. Olympic Team’s matches last summer in France. He’s also earned two senior USMNT caps after debuting in 2023.
FC Twente sits sixth in the Eredivisie table and will face Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League playoff round this month.
Great move for him. He’s done with well post-injury with limited time and I hope this new spot gives him a chance to prepare for the WC.
How realistic is the WC for him? We’ve got Pulisic, Reyna, Weah as wingers. Pulisic and Reyna I guess can play inside, which might open up roster spots on the wing. Who would Booth be competing against? If B. Aaronson is seen as a winger, Booth isn’t beating him out. Cowell? Zendejas? Sargent has played wing, although some would argue that he’s not good there. Wright is a wing. There must be others that I’m forgetting about now.
Dest and A. Robinson play like wingers at times.
It’s a reach, but at least he’s going to be getting more minutes – maybe he moves from B team, to A team periphery 😉
John: I appreciate the optimism but Taylor was the 4th wing for the Olympic team and didn’t shine. I’m not sure what you are referring to with done well post injury he hasn’t scored or assisted in almost a year Feb 11, 2024.
Johnny99: Paredes, Yow, Cole Campbell, Paxton, Musah, Weston, and Luna all have played as wingers in the past as well.
“How realistic is the WC for him? ”
??
No way in hell.
AAB focuses on players who MIGHT have a shot with the USMNT. Most of them have zero chance.
But there is still a lot of time.
USMNT “depth” is still more of a concept than a reality.
TB has done nothing until now to warrant any sober consideration
BUT
what matters is:
What he does going forward
What happens to everyone else
How well his hair holds up.
You never know.
Big news day for SBI LJ, icu
