Johnny Cardoso signs contract extension with Real Betis

Johnny Cardoso has earned himself a contract extension with La Liga club Real Betis.

Cardoso signed a one-year extension with the club, taking his contract until June 2030, the club announced Wednesday. The versatile midfielder has played a vital role for the Spanish side since joining in 2023 from Internacional.

Cardoso has made 44 first team appearances across multiple competitions, scoring two goals and adding three assists. His positive run in the squad has led to English Premier League sides Tottenham and Wolves previously expressing interest in his services.

Tottenham reportedly acquired a first priority option on Cardoso last August, which would force them to pay at least €30 million for Cardoso’s services.

Cardoso has earned 15 caps for the U.S. men’s national team to date.

Real Betis sit 10th in the La Liga table and also remain in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
