The FA Cup quarterfinals are upon us and a pair of U.S. men’s national team stars will face off in a highly-anticipated London Derby.
Chris Richards and Crystal Palace make the trip to face Antonee Robinson and Fulham in the first of four quarterfinal ties this weekend. Richards has remained a regular starter in Oliver Glasner’s squad while goalkeeper Matt Turner will not start against the Cottagers, per Glasner.
Richards featured in one of the USMNT’s Nations League matches this month while Turner started against both Canada and Panama.
Robinson, who missed international duty in March, will aim to get back to form after a slight knock. The USMNT left back has been one of Fulham’s best performers this season and played a large role in the Cottagers’ road upset victory over Manchester United last round.
Elsewhere in England, Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United face Swansea City. Ethan Horvath and Cardiff City host Sheffield Wednesday.
In Germany, Gio Reyna Lennard Maloney and Mainz. Julian Green and Greuther Furth aim to get back on track against Schalke.
In France, Tanner Tessmann and Lyon take on Strasbourg.
In Italy, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan face off with Napoli. Kristoffer Lund and Palermo take on Salernitana.
Elsewhere, Alex Zendejas and Cade Cowell resume Liga MX action. George Bello and LASK kick off the Bundesliga relegation playoffs in Austria. Jonathan Tomkinson and Ross County take on Dundee United. So Aaronson scores in the first minute, but Leeds allow a late equalizer and can only tie 2-2. Who amongst all of you professional soccer pudnits is going to explain why he is a poorplayer, his goal was lucky and/or unskilled and the 2 goals given up were his fault?
Go US soccer “fans”. . . .
Well he wasn’t even on the field for the second goal given up. He was a problem for Swansea early and they were a little unlucky not to have multiple goals in the first ten minutes. Switched over to Sarge vs Dike after BA was subbed so apparently missed a dramatic ending for Leeds.
Being a US soccer fan does not mean you have to be a Brenden Aaronson fan.
.
Nice to see that McKennie is starting for Juve (at left back? did I hear that right?) in a game ***being broadcast on network TV*** for a change. A big thank you to CBS for helping ease my Premier League withdrawal. (-:
And Genoa is now coached by Patrick Vieira? I had lost track of him, but am glad to see he’s at least working again.
Anyone else watching soccer instead of basketball?

Men’s games don’t start until 6 EST, the only competition for viewers at that time was TCU vs Notre Dame women, which was a pretty good game (not counting college softball, baseball, lacrosse) I wonder which drew a bigger audience? I’d guess the women’s basketball game. Networks push soccer to their streaming services because it doesn’t outdraw American football or basketball. Soccer has only a couple weeks with early afternoon time slots before NBA and NHL playoffs start. The best games each week in Europe are in their prime time spots, which happens to be midafternoon here in America, which are usually taken by College Football and the NFL in fall and College basketball in the winter.
Might be time to start giving Bello a look as a backup LB
