Antonee Robinson and Fulham are marching on in this season’s FA Cup.
Robinson captained Fulham to a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Manchester United in the Round of 16 on Sunday. The two teams played out a 1-1 scoreline after 120 minutes of action.
Calvin Bassey’s goal in first half stoppage time gave Marco Silva’s squad a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The veteran defender celebrated his second goal of the season in all competitions.
However, the lead was short lived as Bruno Fernandes’ left-footed strike nestled into the bottom-right corner with 19 minutes to go.
After neither team could find a winning goal in regulation or extra time, Fulham’s Bernd Leno stole the show in the penalty kick shootout. Leno denied both Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee in the final two rounds while Robinson calmly slotted home his fourth round effort into the left side of the net.
Fulham advanced to the quarterfinal round and will next welcome London rivals Crystal Palace to Craven Cottage later this month. The showdown will pit three U.S. men’s national team players against one another as Chris Richards and Matt Turner are among the recent Palace starters.
Fulham resumes Premier League play on March 8 with a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
