The EFL Championship promotion race is heating up with five weeks to go and two U.S. men’s national team midfielders are well in the thick of it.
Brenden Aaronson and Aidan Morris meet midweek as Leeds United faces Middlesbrough in a crucial top-six showdown. Aaronson featured off of the bench on Saturday as the Lilywhites drew Luton Town 1-1 at Kenilworth Road. The USMNT midfielder played the final 11 minutes off of the bench, continuing what has been a busy season for the 24-year-old.
Morris logged his latest 90-minute shift on Friday as Middlesbrough defeated Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at Ewood Park. The former Columbus Crew midfielder has continued to play a lot of minutes in Michael Carrick’s squad this season, helping Middlesbrough move closer to a playoff spot.
Middlesbrough defeated Leeds United 3-0 in EFL Cup play earlier this season before Leeds rolled to a 3-1 league victory in December. Both teams will be seeking three points for respective reasons on Wednesday, especially with only six matches remaining in the league campaign.

In Europe, Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund take on Barcelona in UEFA Champions League play.
