Josh Sargent won’t be headed to the EFL Championship promotion playoffs but that didn’t stop him from earning one of the league’s highest honors.
Sargent was named to the EFL Championship Team of the Season, the league announced Sunday. The Norwich City striker was a key player this season, despite the Canaries failing to reach the promotion playoffs.
Sargent scored 15 goals in 32 appearances this season, which are the second-most goals in the Norwich City squad. The Missouri native missed parts of three months due to a groin injury suffered during the first half of the season.
Should Sargent score twice in the Canaries’ season finale, he will hit the 50-goal plateau for his Canaries’ career.
He was the lone American player named to the EFL Championship Team of the Season.
Whether or not Sargent remains at Carrow Road next season remains to be seen, especially with growing interest from Premier League clubs.
If Haji doesn’t get injured and miss 11 games, he’s in this team no doubt imo
I think they both move up to bigger better leagues. Haji clearly wasn’t ready for the Bundesliga…at age 17 and 18, which is not exactly a sin, and since then he’s more than paid his dues, moving from the Netherlands to Denmark to Turkey before winding up in the Championship last year. That’s a lot of No Quit and he’s built his game to the point I definitely think he can hang in the Prem, Ligue 1, or the Bundesliga again. His game and physicality would translate to those leagues, IMHO, though I think he’s an off-the-bench guy until he improves his holdup play, which again, is not a sin…but I do think he’d be a contributor. He’s a man among boys even in the Championship.
Sargent’s kind of the opposite, IMHO. He’s got good size but not great size, he’s fast but not a burner, and he’s a really sophisticated, complete player with exceptional movement who can score every which way…to me that screams Serie A. Once Milan realizes they threw €35 million away on Santiago Gimenez and got a pure poacher with meh movement and limited hold-up ability, Sargent might be the first phone call I’d make. I think he’d thrive at Milan.
Agree on all of those opinions, and I think they both sign with bigger clubs this summer.
