USWNT blanks China to open May-June window

The U.S. women’s national team returned to winning ways in its first match of the May-June international window.

Catarina Macario, Sam Coffey, and Lindsey Heaps all scored as the USWNT blanked China 3-0 in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was a bounce-back result for the Americans after losing 2-1 to Brazil on April 8.

It was a fast start for the USWNT after their early pressure paid off.

Catarina Macario delivered the breakthrough goal after 28 minutes, continuing what has been a productive spring for club and country. Alyssa Thompson’s original effort was blocked, but Macario made no mistake in slamming home the rebound for a 1-0 lead.

Sam Coffey doubled the Americans lead in the 35th minute, roofing a one-timed pass from Macario into the top-left corner.

Lindsey Heaps headed in the USWNT’s third goal of the match, finishing off Michelle Cooper’s cross into the bottom-right corner.

Goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce registered a one-save clean sheet for the USWNT while 32-year-old Lo’eau Labonta became the oldest player to make her senior debut for the program.

The result marked the USWNT’s fourth victory out of six matches in 2025.

Emma Hayes’ squad will conclude their two-match window on June 3 against Jamaica.

    • It’s so stark the difference between the top 10 and everyone else in womens international soccer. Kudos, I guess to China trying to play a little but once the US figured out their press it was one way traffic. Foudy complaining about how easy China was making it by playing such a high line was funny.

      • China made it easy, tactically simple, interesting as to why Milicic stuck with it; maybe he’s trying to teach it to them for some reason we don’t see, but it was weird. They did finally adjust and begin to drop instead of hold the high line later in the 2nd half but like you said, one way traffic. we kept saying that exact thing over and over over here

      • Hey Wilfred Nancy, kept refusing to change anything last night as my Crew kept gifting goals to Miami so maybe it’s contagious.
