Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: McKennie faces Musah, and more

Two of the U.S. men’s national team’s key midfield options will meet in a crucial Serie A clash on Saturday.

Weston McKennie and Juventus welcome Yunus Musah and Atalanta in one of the top matches of the weekend slate. McKennie did not feature in Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona on Saturday and should be well rested to play a part in Igor Tudor’s squad. The 27-year-old has earned two starts in five matches so far this season and will be eager to return to the starting lineup in Turin.

Musah made his full club debut in a 4-0 UEFA Champions League hammering at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain before dropping to the bench in Sunday’s 3-0 Serie A victory over Torino. The AC Milan loanee brings versatility to the Atalanta squad, but ultimately will need to earn the trust of manager Ivan Juric as the new campaign pushes forward.

Atalanta took four of six points in its two head-to-head meetings with Juventus last season, including a 4-0 road win last March.

In England, Chris Richards and Crystal Palace face Liverpool in a matchup of the remaining unbeaten sides in the Premier League. Haji Wright and Coventry City host Birmingham City in EFL Championship action.

Elsewhere in Italy, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan host Napoli. Jonathan Klinsmann and Cesena face off with Palermo.

In Germany, Malik Tillman and James Sands square off in Bundesliga action. Gio Reyna and Borussia Moenchengladbach face Eintracht Frankfurt.

In France, Tanner Tessmann and Lyon face off with Lille in Ligue 1 play.

Elsewhere, Benji Michel and HJK continue league play in Finland. Bryan Reynolds and Westerlo visit Union St. Gilloise. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic host Hibernian in SPFL action. Lindsey Heaps and Lyon’s women’s squad take on PSG in a highly-anticipated league match. George Bello and LASK visit Wolfsberger in Austrian league action. Rokas Pukstas and Hajduk Split aim to get back on track.

    • who will show up for his caps or the world cup? the guy who would nervously dance around then get stuffed? or the guy who hit that volley on japan. one is worth my time, the other isn’t.

i still think cole campbell is better than either version.

  1. Nice Palace and Richards flying high.

Fabian Hurzeler has Brighton playing so good. Future USMNT coach? He won’t be with Brighton much longer. Bigger clubs will come knocking for his services.
