Weston McKennie is heading into the final season of his Juventus contract and the Bianconeri are reportedly considering a potential exit for the American midfielder.
Juventus and AS Roma are in talks over a swap deal that involves McKennie and Roma defender Bryan Cristante, multiple outlets reported Saturday. Should McKennie depart the club, Cristante’s arrival would fill the void left by the U.S. men’s national team stalwart.
Juventus previously was linked with signing McKennie to a new contract back in May, but talks have quieted.
McKennie just completed his fourth season with Juventus, helping Igor Tudor’s men qualify for the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League. He made 48 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring five goals and adding four assists.
Since joining Juventus from Schalke in 2020, McKennie has made 182 appearances for the club, winning two Coppa Italia trophies and one Italian Super Cup.
He also spent part of the 2022-22 season on loan at English Premier League side Leeds United.
AS Roma finished fifth in Serie A last season, which qualified them for the Europa League group stage.
As a third-generation giallorossi fan, I would love to see McKinney play there. I believe the tifosi in curva sud would appreciate him. But I also like Crystante. It’s not really like-for-like as Crystante is more a stay-at-home, defense-first type player. Fun fact, Crystante was also eligible to play for Canada.
No surprise. Juve has tried offload him every season.
