Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Palmer-Brown, Sargent, and more

Erik Palmer-Brown and Panathinaikos are one series away from reaching the UEFA Europa League group stage.

The Greek side advanced past Shakhtar Donetsk 4-3 on penalty kicks after the two teams played out a 0-0 second leg draw in Poland. Palmer-Brown played the full 120 minutes in defense, helping Panathinaikos claim a major upset in the European competition.

The 28-year-old has returned to being an important player for Panathinaikos, a trend that he hopes will continue through the new season. Palmer-Brown has a long season ahead and a positive run could see him force his way into the U.S. men’s national team picture.

Up next in Europe is a two-legged playoff series with Turkish club Samsunspor, with the winner heading to September’s league phase.

In England, Josh Sargent scored in Norwich City’s win over Watford while Haji Wright registered the game-winning assist as Coventry City edged Luton Town. Lynden Gooch also started in Huddersfield Town’s penalty shootout win over Leicester City.
